Manchester Derby 9 December

posted 5 Dec 2012, 14:35 by Sportech Nz

With 15 games of the 2012/13 English Premier League season completed Manchester United sit at the top of the EPL, three points ahead of Manchester City and a comfortable ten points ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in equal third place.  Chelsea has a knack of coming back in the second half of each season following the now routine change of manager by their impatient owner Abramovich.  No wonder Pep Guardiola is lukewarm about the Chelsea job – three strikes and you’re out!

Only Manchester City remains unbeaten in the EPL this season, but with six draws that’s a potential 12 points dropped.

Sunday afternoon in Manchester’s Etihad Stadium sees the old rivals face each other in what is bound to be an intense derby. Last season City won their home derby in April 1-0 after having stunned United supporters with a 6-1 drubbing of United at Old Trafford the previous October. That October match turned out to be the game that won the Premier League title for The Blues.

More interesting stats facing Alex Ferguson: in the Premier League competition City have now gone 37 home games without defeat and 21 games undefeated in home and away games.

Down at the other end of the table Ryan Nelsen’s QPR have yet to win a game this season but have chalked up six points from six draws. QPR is the only team out of the four English Divisions yet to win a game.  Harry Redknapp now has 23 games to turn QPR around.
